Where this mixer is going to be used, this person won't have any other DAW available due to cost and simplicity to operate otherwise we would attempt ocen audio or similar. GB does react to the levels and seems to with the EQ knobs although with the noise it is difficult to tell a big difference. So whether this noise could be related to USB voltage i can't say for sure and won't be able to test immediately, but it is so similar to what i remember ca 2012 or so with GB when we had to find another solution then, granted how long ago that was. It does not light up if we just connect them it would only do after the mixer was powered on and connected. The only quesitonable thing is when the mixer is powered down the screen backlight remains on as long as the USB cable is connected to the mac. There is sometimes a delay in GB recognizing that the inputs are options even while system preferences sees the device connect/disconnect immediately. When connected with the USB cable the mixer recognizes immediately and selects the proper setting within it. The best way i can describe this noise/echo is if you have a really noisy single coil Tele with a microphonic cable, as it picks up cable movement/string 'wind' while not being muted. using GB panning setting does affect this but can not reduce/remove the noise affect. GB ignores the pan settings on the mixing board and instead creates its own stereo stage where the mic is about 3/4 panned to the right and the noise/echo is panned about 1/4 left. Trying not to have to do that anyway but at least so far in testing the phantom can not be the cause of this issue. ideally a set of condensers may also be used in the future and if necessary we can get separate phantom power supplies. As neither of these mics needs phantom power, the mixer phantom power switch has remained off throughout. various cables and inputs were utilized to rule out any issue with those. The mics in used are a 57 clone and 52 clone, both of which work properly with other setups or with the mixer standalone. Ideally, a USB3 docking station/hub would be utilized but for now it is literally just the mac, its power cable, and the desk usb connections.

The USB cables are being connected directly to the mac no adapter or hub involved. This same mac works without issue using Rocksmith game and the included interface cable so nothing inherent ilke bad usb port or controller within. When I connect it to my 2014 MBP (running Mojave) via either USB2 or USB3 cables, the mac recognized it no issue, the mixer recognizes that it is connected to a 'PC' no issue, and I can choose the device as either input1, input2 or stereo input1+2 as a source in GB.

I know it's not a pro quality desk but for its intended purpose it is a great fit.

I have a super top tier mixer Depusheng DX8 that has no noise when using either the tape out, control room out, main out to my M Audio monitors, or the headphone out to my HD380Pros. That was 2 mac and several OS X versions ago, but before i rule this out as the same issue i wanted to try to address it the best I can as a separate thing first. Firstly let me say it has been a long long time since I last used GarageBand but when i last did, ultimately I stopped due to an issue that it couldn't 'hear' my interface without a lot of extra noise.
